About REMO
In 2001 the British Olympic Association and the United Kingdom Association of Doctors in Sport commissioned the development of an immediate medical care and resuscitation course, tailored specifically for doctors and physiotherapists working in sport.
In 2002 the first Resuscitation and Emergency Management Onfield (REMO) course was successfully piloted for doctors working in Olympic sport. It was the first course of its kind developed specifically for medical staff covering elite sports teams.
Since then over 500 people have completed the REMO course and it is now a compulsory qualification for UK specialist trainees in sports and exercise medicine.
In 2007 the Football Association commissioned REMO Sports Ltd to develop a course specifically for healthcare professionals working in professional football and in 2008 the first Advanced Resuscitation and Emergency Aid (AREA) courses were run.
To date over 150 people have attended AREA courses and it has now become a mandatory qualification for all medical staff required to run on to the pitch to attend injured players in the Premier League.
